Texas A&’s Turner arrested on reckless driving charge

Texas A&M starting defensive lineman Shemar Turner was arrested Monday on a charge of reckless driving stemming from an incident in College Station last month.

Brazos County Jail records indicate that Turner was released on a $3,000 surety bond on Monday after a warrant was served for the Aug. 12 reckless driving incident. According to the Houston Chronicle, Turner was driving his Dodge Challenger at an average of 85 mph in 35- and 45-mph zones near what was described as a “typically busy” intersection in College Station.

According to the report, officers determined they were unable to safely stop Turner’s vehicle due to the high rate of speed. However, the car was tracked through camera footage to a parking lot adjacent to Texas A&M’s Kyle Field and identified due to its unique hood coloring.

Turner reportedly told the arresting officers he was driving so fast because he was late for a meeting. He added that he did not know how fast he was going or what the posted speed limit was in that area.

The 6-foot-4, 280-pound Turner has four tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble in two games for the Aggies this season. A two-year starter and a Freshman All-American two seasons ago, he was a 4-star recruit in Texas A&M’s 2021 signing class out of DeSoto (Texas) High School.

Texas A&M (1-1) hosts Louisiana-Monroe (2-0) on Saturday. The Aggies open SEC play vs. Auburn on Sept. 23.
